What is ASTON?
ASTON (Advanced Screening Tool for Observable Neurodivergence) is a clinician-initiated, multi-informant screening instrument designed to identify neurodevelopmental traits in children and young people aged 4–17 years.
Developed in collaboration with leading developmental psychologists, medical practitioners, and educational specialists, ASTON synthesizes observational data from multiple perspectives—parents/carers, teachers, and youth self-report (ages 12+)—to provide a comprehensive behavioral profile.
Informants rate observable behaviour across the same nine domains, so the clinician can compare home, school and youth self-report side by side. ASTON is a screening instrument, not a diagnostic test.

ASTON's item bank draws from peer-reviewed literature on neurodevelopmental conditions, incorporating validated constructs from established screening instruments while addressing gaps in cross-informant observation synthesis.
Multi-Informant Methodology
Multi-informant screening helps the clinician see home, school and self-report together. ASTON organises those observations. It does not make a diagnosis.
Validity Monitoring
Built-in response validity indicators detect inconsistent responding patterns, acquiescence bias, and completion time anomalies, flagging potentially unreliable data for clinician review.
Clinical Integration
ASTON is designed to complement—not replace—comprehensive clinical assessment. Generated reports facilitate informed decision-making about referral pathways and intervention priorities.
